The 2007 World Day of Prayer service: "United Under God's Tent", was held on March 2nd at St Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Wolfville. It was attended by over 50 people, an excellent representation of our local congregations. The guest speaker was Dr. Lionel Moriah, Associate Professor of Practical Theology and Dean of Chapel, who spoke eloquently about the protection of prayer, using the metaphor of a tent in keeping with the Order of Worship as prepared by the women of Paraguay.

      

The organist for the service was Owen Stevens, and a guest singer, Maria Duarte, formerly of Columbia, sang a latin American song, representing the artisan women of Paraguay. A lovely collection of the "nandute" lace woven by the women of Paraguay was displayed in the church hall for all to see who attended the delicious reception following the service.

Rev Moriah was unable to be at the Wolfville Nursing home for March 8th, but the ecumenical committee who planned the original service at St Francis were able to come and lead the residents: Sandra Ward (Wolfville United Baptist), Jane Hines (Wolfville Pastoral Charge - St Andrews), Helen Whidden, Jean Winter, and Debbie MacDonald (St John's Anglican), and Rosaleen McDonald and Margaret Burton (St Francis of Asssi Roman Catholic). Two of the Nursing Home residents, Mrs Kay Smith and Mrs Ethel Ingraham, read Scripture.

Mr Don Corbett, St John's organist, accompanied the singing. It was a very meaningful time of prayer and solidarity with women around the world. Approximately 20 residents attended the service, overseen by Coordinator Margaret Coghill and her team. Fresh cake and lovely fruit punch followed the service.

A note of appreciation must be extended to Rosaleen McDonald, this year's 2007 WDP Committee chair, as well as her ecumenical committee. Lots of work and well done!
